Hi! I’m Betsy!
I am a proud Bowling Green State University Falcon (’79)! I majored in physical education, but I took a temporary summer job with The Blade (Toledo, Ohio) newspaper and before I knew it, I was retiring after a very satisfying 32 year career with the paper!
I have no problem filling my days, playing pickleball, golfing, and traveling……mostly to play pickleball. In the winter, I also go to ski in Summit County, Colorado for a month (but admittedly, I play more pickleball than ski!)
I live in Sylvania, Ohio which is a suburb of Toledo in Northwest Ohio. I belong to three pickleball clubs in the Toledo area – Toledo Pickleball Club, Sylvania Pickleball Club and Holland Pickleball Club. I also belong to the Summit County Pickleball Club in Colorado, and the Bonita Bay Pickleball Club in Florida. Besides pickleball, I play in three 18-hole ladies golf leagues in the summer.
I like playing in tournaments, and am a 4.0 player, but I haven’t had much success at that level….YET! I’m still working on it, but in the meantime I enjoy the people I meet and the places the game takes me!
I have played in tournaments in many places in the USA, as well as in Europe in Spain (twice), Holland, England, and Finland. I was part of the North American team for the inaugural Bainbridge Cup in 2017. I’m looking forward to my next trip in the spring of 2018 when I will return to Holland for their tournament in Almere.
In 2016, I became a USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) Ambassador, a position I enjoy very much. Having been an education major in college, but never teaching, I am now using my education skills to help others learn to play pickleball as well as to help clubs to grow and prosper.
In short, pickleball has defined my retirement!
I hope you enjoy my blog!
